President: Melvin McNulty, Sr.

My career includes 35 years law enforcement. I began my journey after graduating from University of Louisiana Monroe (formerly Northeast Louisiana University) with a Bachelor of Liberal Arts in Pre-Law Legal Studies. My initial desire was to become an attorney, but when my path crossed with Angela my interest was redirected towards other educational pursuits. During our college days at NLU we would spend countless hours together in the campus dining halls discussing our future goals and aspirations. Often these conversations would spill over into the evening while taking a break from studying and enjoying a friendly competition of various card and board games which were just a few of Angela’s favorite pastimes.
I did not pursue my original plans to become an attorney; however, law enforcement ultimately became my chosen career path. I earned a Master of Arts Degree in Professional Counseling from Amberton University in Garland, Texas. This degree along with my extensive background in law enforcement positioned me to provide counseling to sex offenders adjudicated by the court system. My advanced degree coupled with my years of dedication to law enforcement played a pivotal role in my promotion to the rank of sergeant. In this position, I supervised the sexual assault unit briefly until transferring to robberies, followed by photo-line up unit and later the assaults unit from where I eventually retired. At present, I teach a law enforcement class part-time at Eastfield college, which is a short distance from where I reside. Angela was very instrumental in my accepting this teaching position because she believed in doing things to always stimulate learning and she knew law enforcement would always be a part of my life, even in retirement.
Vice President: Melvin McNulty II

I graduated from high school in June of 2008 with mixed emotions of excitement of starting college in the Fall yet not wanting to rush my first summer free of high school and probably my last summer of simply being carefree.
My parents always promoted the importance of education, so I knew college was the next step and I had to take it seriously. I was able to narrow my college choices down to Stephen F. Austin State University and The University of North Texas with the help and guidance of my parents. Both of my parents graduated from the University of Louisiana Monroe as well as other members of my family therefore it would have been an easy decision to attend ULM, but my parents knew their first born, the son who moves to the beat of his own drum. The University of North Texas was the best choice, it was close to home but not too close. Upon making the decision as to what school to attend came the next question of what would be my major. My initial major was accounting which seemed ideal, but it did not peak my anticipated interest.
I credit my mom, Angela, for guiding me to a career path that would align with my interests. She helped me to see that my love of sports and enjoyment of being physically active were a perfect combination to pursue a career in Kinesiology. I switched majors and the rest is history. My graduation from college gives me a sense of accomplishment. However, knowing that my parents, family, and friends were beyond proud made all the sacrifices and setbacks worth taking the journey to reach my goal.
My first post-graduation job was as a Rehabilitation Technician which was interesting, and I enjoyed the work. This job gave me a passion for helping people which led me to consider other career options in healthcare with short tenures at Baylor Garland and University of Texas Southwestern (UTSW) in Dallas. Again, I found myself in workplace environments that would allow me to be more impactful in the lives of others. Eventually, I found myself amidst company restructuring and my career path led me to a position in law enforcement with the Dallas Sheriff’s department as a Detention Officer. After 2 ½ years in this position I have learned a lot while gaining even more respect for the career that my father worked in for 35 years.
My mother would always say, “Every day is an interview.” I remind myself of this daily and will always take this advice wherever my career path follows. The loss of my mom has taken a toll on me and has shifted my thought process. However, I will always honor her with my decisive thoughts and positive actions. She was the best instructor and loved education and reading. She ALWAYS wanted me to read the next book and yearn for more knowledge. The teaching/education bug has been biting at me, and I’ve been told I’d be a great coach or teacher. I’m starting to see the light shining on that as being my calling. I am currently exploring teaching options that will best fit me. I think it would make my mother very happy to follow in her footsteps and change the world, one student at a time. Matthew 5:16 is my goal every day. God bless.
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Matthew 5:16

“The ties that bound my relationship with Angela started over 36 years ago when we forged a bond as sisters in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Little did we know that our friendship and sisterhood would merge our families forever. Upon closing out our early academic paths at Northeast Louisiana University, Angela and I would move on to the next chapters of our lives and marry our college sweethearts. I thought I knew Angela’s sweetheart better than she did but when she said yes to my brother, Melvin, she became his best friend, and she would be the one that he would build and share a lifetime of memories. In our family, Angela was more than our sister-in-law. She was our brother’s wife, mother to Mel and Jaci, TT Angela to our children, she was our friend and sister. Ole girl, you are truly missed but I thank God for the time He shared you with us.”

With Angela’s spirit and guidance, Dr. McNulty believes that she will have a blessed and wonderful life ahead of her.
Historian: Pamela McNulty

Pamela McNulty is a proud alumnus of Northeast Louisiana University (NLU), graduating with a B.S. in Medical Technology and chemistry minor. After a career as a medical technologist (clinical laboratory scientist) and clinical instructor at Baylor University Medical Center (Dallas) and Gulfport Memorial Hospital (Mississippi Gulf Coast), Pamela earned an M.S. in Higher Education and a counseling minor and transitioned to academia. In her current role as Director of the Office of Pre-Health Advising at Southern Methodist University, Pamela brings a passion for educating and empowering Pre-Health students with the knowledge and skills required to reach their professional goals. She is honored to assist in shaping the paths of future physicians, dentists, and other Pre-Health professionals.
At NLU in 1983, Pamela first met Angela, and their lives would become intertwined for the next 37 years. They both graduated in 1986 with honors. In 1987, they became sisters after marrying brothers (Melvin and Keith) and moved to Mesquite, Texas, in 1990 to begin raising their families. Two boys (KJ and Mel) and two girls (Jaci and Kelsey) would complete the party of eight. From worshipping together to birthday celebrations, yearly summer trips to Six Flags, and good ole fashion family gatherings, Ann and Pam shared life. They also shared a passion for education, both earning advanced degrees from Texas A&M University-Commerce in 1999 and 2000. However (and most notably), it was Ann’s love for reading and literacy that led her to create the Eclectic Book Club in 2002. Today, the book club remains her lasting legacy of sisterhood, friendship, and reading. The group will always cherish Ann’s vision and forever remember her laughter and the many fun times they shared during daily group chats, monthly book discussions, and those infamous yearly retreats.
Ann understood that a college education was the key to providing two young families from small towns with the opportunity to own homes in the Dallas area, travel extensively, and send their children to college. By honoring her memory with a scholarship to assist future educators with completing their education, Ann’s love of teaching and learning will continue for years to come.
